Watch epic performances of popular video game music by a Finnish orchestra that kicked off Slush

HELSINKI, Finland — With all the creative components that go into making a video game, it’s easy to overlook the craft of writing and performing the music.

And yet, it’s the music that often enhances and cues the emotions of the game, and along the way, these tunes can become among the most-played songs in popular culture.

The organizers of Slush — a two-day technology conference in Helsinki that attracts 15,000 people — teamed up with the Tapiola Sinfonietta orchestra, which performed nine famous themes from popular games, including Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Super Stardust, and Boom Beach.

Each song was preceded by a short interview with the composers, who explained their inspirations.

The event was livestreamed. Yle, the Finnish public broadcaster, has posted a series of videos from the event. They aren’t embeddable, alas, but you can view each part of the concert here.

Also, there was a bonus performance at the end when Apocalyptica, everyone’s favorite heavy metal cello band, joined the symphony on stage. So, check that out for sure. Because cellos.
