Unity has partnered with 2K Games in a multi-title deal to bring PGA Tour 2K25 to the Nintendo Switch 2.
The game engine maker said Unity Studio Productions, Unityʼs in-house development studio, is working closely with HB Studios, a 2K Games studio, to deliver the most immersive and authentic golf experience optimized for Nintendoʼs newest console.
“Our partnership with 2K demonstrates how Unity enables developers to deliver visually stunning experiences across platforms, while expanding the reach of beloved franchises to new audiences,ˮ said Adam Smith, senior vice president of product for engine at Unity. “By co-developing the port PGA Tour 2K25, weʼre validating our technology for Nintendo Switch 2 and strengthening Unityʼs multiplatform foundation, reinforcing our promise of making it easier for creators to build once and deploy everywhere.ˮ
Powered by advanced Unity 6 features like deferred lighting, screen space reflections, and
post-processing effects, PGA Tour 2K25 brings true-to-life detail and realism to the greens. The game allows players to compete as legendary pros such as Tiger Woods, Justin Thomas, and Lydia Ko – or create their own MyPlayer to take on iconic tournaments like the 2025 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club, the 125th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, and The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush Golf Club.
“Golf is our passion, and so is reaching as many players as possible with the joy of the sport,” said James Seaboyer, studio head at HB Studios, in a statement. “Unity has been instrumental in growing our franchise from The Golf Club to the PGA Tour 2K series. This partnership allows us to bring our most immersive and authentic golf experience to Nintendo Switch 2, complete with excellent visual fidelity and user-generated content features that players love.”
PGA Tour 2K25 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam and is
coming soon to the Nintendo Switch 2.
In an interview with GamesBeat, Smith said of the announcement at Unite 2025 in Barcelona, “2K Games will be on stage with us announcing the fact that they are leveraging Unity to bring their PGA Tour 2K25 franchise to Nintendo Switch to leveraging Unity’s high-performance runtime.”
Earlier this year, Unity shipped its own game, Survival Kids, for the very first time. It partnered with Konami on it and it became a third-party launch title for the Nintendo Switch. That helped prove the Unity tech on Nintendo.
After addressing issues with that title, Unity is now enabling labels like 2K to get to the Switch 2. The 2K game is the first in a multi-year, multi-title agreement with Unity.
I asked about the Valve Steam Machine that was announced this week, but Smith said Unity was not able to talk about that yet.
“From a player perspective, I am excited with their announcement, a standardized controller for the many games that come to Steam,” Smith said. “It’s a great thing for developers because it will open up the PC market to additional developers who traditionally haven’t been targeting the PC audience. It will give them a new form factor.”
