Other people’s vacation videos are sometimes tedious, but this one isn’t. And it’s a great example of how video games are infiltrating every aspects of our lives — much like the supercute Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft wedding invitation we reported on last week.

Backpacker Nick Hewitt and his girlfriend, Elle, turned their six-month travel adventure into a video that looks like a retro video game, complete with character stats, a level select screen, check points, and a high-score table. Filmed across eight countries with a chest-mounted GoPro camera, the 3 minute video takes in 27 different vehicles, a bunch of adventures, and some seriously diverse scenery.

“Extended travel is essentially like playing a big game,” Hewitt — who blogs under the name Follow Me East — told the Mail Online. “When we got home, I spent a month adding video game visuals and sounds and was thrilled when the final result appeared as I’d envisioned it.’

“I just wanted to make a fun video we can watch later to reflect on our travels.”
