The BFG gets a TMG (tiny mobile game)

Another movie-based mobile game is reaching for the lowest of the hanging fruit.

Developer Reliance Games has released a mobile game today to go along with the launch of the new Steven Spielberg and Disney movie The BFG, based on the book of the same name. So, how do you make a mobile experience based on a beloved children’s story about a giant? Why, you make another match-3 game, of course!

Match-3 is the default genre for the platform, thanks to huge hits like King’s Candy Crush Saga, one of the biggest hits in the $34 billion industry. Disney has dipped into the this puzzle jar itself in the past with Frozen: Free Fall. The BFG Game is free on iOS and Android devices. The movie releases in theaters in the U.S. today.

“The BFG Game’ brings dream matching excitement, giant fun, and magical worlds to our mobile devices. This immersive match-3 game will take ‘The BFG’ fans to a whole new level of adventure with delightful surprises, amazing 3D animations, and fantastic fantasy art,” said Amit Khanduja, chief executive officer of Reliance Entertainment Digital, in a press release sent to GamesBeat.
