Was about to do a search on Google when the image froze me. Why on Earth would they have a Tetris logo (which rules, natch)? Turns out it’s Tetris’ 25th birthday. Seems a little old, especially since the Game Boy — which everyone associates the game with — turned 20 last month.
This reminds me of a completely nerdy writing assignment I did in a humor writing class. I forget the actual instructions, but I made Tetris my theme and tied each block type into a different type of student at a high school. When I read it for the class, I brought out my Game Boy Color and had the Tetris music playing.
Dunno how I got away with that, seeing as it was my senior year of college, but that’s not the half of it. Somehow I tied in a videogame-related piece or project into all my final-senior-semester classes. It was probably paritally due to senioritis, but also just because that’s simply where my mind was at.
Anyway, many congrats to Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov for his baby standing the test of time as one of gaming’s all-time greats. My gift to you: this picture of Dude Playing Tetris on Old-school Game Boy in April 2009. Enjoy!
