TaleMonster Games, a Turkish studio founded by veterans of Peak Games on a mission to bring depth and creativity to casual puzzle games, raised $30 million.
Arcadia Gaming Partners and Andreessen Horowitz co-led the funding round. Point72 Ventures and General Catalyst also joined the round.
TaleMonster’s debut title, Match Valley, is a casual game blending match-3 puzzles with elements from the hero and tower defense genres. The result of this combination is a game with novel core mechanics that has seen exceptional early performance with industry-leading metrics, including 100-minute average daily playtimes. It’s one of a number of Turkish mobile game studios that have raised a lot of money.
“Our goal is to set new standards for what casual games can be,” said Irem Sumer, Co-Founder and CEO of TaleMonster, in a statement. “Today’s casual players are far more experienced than they used to be. They’ve spent years playing games, are highly engaged, and are now ready for more depth. We see a major opportunity to meet this shift at scale.”
The global casual games market reaches more than a billion players, but true differentiation has become rare as many titles follow the same design patterns, particularly within puzzle genres. Building something unique requires stepping outside of those patterns, and this belief has driven TaleMonster’s game design philosophy. The studio’s vision is to create games with greater depth and innovation that are category-disrupting and genre-defining. Match Valley is the first expression of that vision.
“Companies at this stage are typically strong in just one or two metrics, whereas TaleMonster shows strength across several. I’ve never seen metrics like this in my 15 years in gaming. When I first met the founders, they said their goal was to combine strong monetization with durable retention, and their results show they are achieving exactly that,” said Akin Babayiğit, managing director at Arcadia Gaming Partners, in a statement.
“In a category where most teams rely on the same playbook, choosing a different path requires real courage. TaleMonster has never taken the easy route. They’ve built an original product and a culture that isn’t afraid to challenge the industry,” said Josh Lu, partner at A16z, in a statement.
The global casual games market reaches more than a billion players, yet meaningful differentiation remains a challenge as many products rely on similar design patterns. Building something unique requires operating without established benchmarks, but it also creates space for innovation.
TaleMonster’s vision is to develop a portfolio of games that introduce deeper, distinctive experiences while remaining accessible to a broad audience. Match Valley, which combines match-based gameplay with tower defense strategy, reflects this approach by surprising players with mechanics that are both intuitive and deep.
“We are a team united by a shared obsession for products and a deep love for games. Our mission is to create games that surprise, challenge, and evolve with players,” said Sumer.
