Supercell announced this week that it is ending development on its mobile action game, Squad Busters, with plans to shut the game down permanently some time in 2026. The game has failed to meet the company’s expectations, despite a last attempt to fix it by way of the introduction of its major Heroes update. The company is offering players a chance to transfer the value of their Squad Busters purchases to another Supercell game.
In the announcement, the dev team says that Squad Busters has not achieved the milestones they were hoping for, adding that “we were not able to find a lasting solution to its core problems.” They add that the game’s servers will remain open until roughly mid-2026 at the earliest, with one final update planned for December 2025.
Supercell adds that in-app purchases are no longer available in Squad Busters as of today. Anyone who made purchases in the game this year will be able to request a transfer of their value to an equivalent value in another Supercell game, such as Brawl Stars, Clash of Clans, or Clash Royale. The transfer window opens on November 10 and remains open through the end of the year.
Squad Busters was the first new game IP from Supercell in five years when it launched in 2024. The developers noted that they wanted to launch the game without the extended beta periods of its previous games — which they noted that “we had got it wrong.” Members of the Squad Busters team will move to other games, and the company has not confirmed whether or not anyone will be laid off as a result of Squad Busters’ shutdown.
