Summer Game Fest moves to the Dolby Theatre for 2026 event

Geoff Keighley, the host of the Summer Game Fest, announced today that the 2026 iteration of the vent will have a new venue: The Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. In addition, Keighley said the event will stream on June 5, a “spectacular, cross-platform showcase of what’s next in video games,” with public tickets going on sale next spring.

The Dolby Theatre is no small get, as it is the traditional site of the Academy Awards since 2001. It’s also hosted other gaming events such as the Elden Ring Symphonic Adventure earlier this year. Before this change, the main Summer Game Fest event was held in the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. The Game Awards, Keighley’s other major event, are held at the Peacock Theater.

The opening event of SGF is usually a live showcase full of reveals for new games. This year, the big reveal was for the next game in the Resident Evil series, called Requiem. Other updates included Square Enix’s Killer Inn, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros and Ryu Ga Gotoku’s Stranger Than Heaven. In addition to the main showcase and Play Days, Summer Game Fest also features showcases such as the Wholesome Games Direct and Day of the Devs.

The SGF event has, for the most part, taken over the space in the summer events calendar formerly occupied by E3. The ESA’s annual event was officially discontinued in 2023, reportedly due to a lack of interest. Since then, Summer Game Fest has taken on all of the hallmarks of E3’s showcase, including new game reveals.
