Sound Games has raised $6.5 million in total funding to build premium games that are designed for players first and built to travel with you across platforms.
The company said it believes the best games should be owned, not rented. They should be cross-platform by default, not an afterthought. And they should respect your time and attention, not require endless purchases to fully enjoy.
That’s why it’s building its first game, Go Ape Ship, around a simple philosophy: Pay Once. Play Anywhere.
“Sound Games exists to publish premium games that are high-quality, replayable, and accessible across devices, with a business model that treats players with respect. We’re designing and publishing games that can be bought once and played across the platforms you already use; whether you’re on PC, console, mobile,” the company said.
I noted that the game didn’t look like it was aimed at a triple-A game audience. In a message to GamesBeat, CEO Mike Schmid said the development started a little over a year ago.
“Our goal is to move quick and ship multiple games a year to prove out the value of Pay Once, Play Anywhere,” he said. “Go Ape Ship! is the first of many titles to come that will showcase this. Our goal isn’t to be a triple-A studio and I think largely these definitions are sort of blurry nowadays anyway.”
He added, “I learned how big the market of cross platform play can be during my times at Apple, Rec Room, and Backbone. Our larger target is players who consider themselves multi-platform gamers. But we also think this game will resonate with folks who are liking the current and poorly titled trend of ‘friendslop’ games.”
Backed by Builders Who Believe in the Mission

The company raised the seed financing, led by Point72 Ventures, with participation from
Timeless, Daybreak, WOCstar, Hustle Fund, ZVC, and other incredible supporters.
“We’re deeply grateful for the conviction and partnership from investors who share our belief that premium, cross-platform gaming has an enormous future — especially when paired with modern distribution,” said cofounder Mike Schmid of Sound Games, in a statement.
“We see cross-platform play as a meaningful shift in premium gaming. Sound Games has built around that shift from day one, and we believe its buy once, play anywhere model and focus on quality create room for a different kind of company,” said Ishan Sinha, partner of Point72 Ventures, in a statement.

Go Ape Ship launches in February
The company’s first (pay once, play anywhere) POPA title, Go Ape Ship, is launching in February 2026. It is the first expression of what Sound Games stands for: player-friendly, polished, premium game design with a modern cross-platform model.
The gaming industry has expanded massively but the relationship between studios and players hasn’t always expanded with it. Too often, premium games get buried on major platforms under monetization pressure and artificial restrictions.
cross-platform premium games. that sounds pretty generic now. do you have genres you’ll focus on? need a little more detail on why you are different from others?
In my time at Apple, I rarely saw premium games land day and date on mobile and PC. Often times the App Store would get a game years later either for the same price it shipped on console / PC or sometimes a free to play variant that was a poor approximation of the original game. Our goal is to change that story. We aren’t limiting ourselves to a genre but we are probably shying away from gameplay that doesn’t yet feel great cross platform (think RTS on console).
Schmid said the company has a dozen remote employees, with the founders based in the state of Washington and Spain. Go Ape Ship! Was built in collaboration with Lightfox Games.
The company wants to build something different. Sound Games is building for players who want:
● premium game experiences
● cross-platform continuity
● buy-once ownership
● and games worth coming back to
