Amir Satvat, game jobs champion, wrote in a post on LinkedIn that 42 of the world’s 59 game layoffs so far in 2026 took place in North America.
Satvat calculates the data based on information that comes in through his job resources and connections with his game jobs support group, Always Supporting the Games Community.
Satvat said that 56% (1,565 / 2,773) of total games layoffs in 2026 took place in North America. Perhaps the biggest one that took place was last week’s 1,000 announced layoffs at Epic Games.
He said only 27% of non-remote open roles in games are in North America, and only 28% of total games roles worldwide are in North America (Source: Game Industry Coffee Chat Median estimate).
In 2026, both total layoff situations and games layoffs in North American remain two times to three times over representative of the total work force and open roles, Satvat said.
Satvat also announced his free job resources have been retooled. His team has redone every major part of the community experience, moving away from Excel-based workflows and instead to app dashboards that are far more usable, scalable, and aligned with user requests over the years.
