Snapchat is launching AI Clips in Lens Studio for developers, a new AI-powered Lens format that transforms a single Snap or Camera Roll photo into a cinematic five-second video based on a prompt.

With the AI-powered tech, you can put yourself on the red carpet or in outer space.

It’s an example of how social media companies are running to embrace AI, while game developers are running away from it.

Unlike open-ended text-to-video tools, AI Clips are designed as closed-prompt Lens experiences, where developers define the creative direction and Snapchatters can simply tap to generate cinematic, immersive videos from their own photos.

For developers, there’s currently nothing else on the market that combines structured AI video creation with direct photo input, seamless distribution, and built-in monetization, the company said.

While much of the AI video landscape today feels distant or technical, AI Clips make AI video instant, personal, and shareable. For the first time, developers can build and publish photo-to-video AI directly to Snapchat from the GenAI Suite in Lens Studio.

At their core, AI Clips are Snapchat Lenses that transform a Snap or Camera Roll photo into a five-second AI video. The magic lies in the closed-prompt design:

  • Developer Control: Creators define the creative direction and prompt
  • Effortless for Snapchatters: You simply tap to step into the experience
  • Cinematic Results: A single photo can place someone on a red carpet or in a surreal moment, creating storytelling that is personal and share-ready

Snapchat said AI Clips stand out in the broader AI video landscape because of what they don’t try to be. They aren’t open-ended, text-to-video tools or experimental demos. They are closed-prompt AI experiences designed for scale, creativity, and repeat engagement. There’s currently nothing else on the market that combines closed-prompt AI video generation with direct photo input, real distribution, and monetization.

With Lens+ subscribers actively looking for premium, immersive experiences, AI Clips aren’t just fun experiments, they’re a chance for developers to reach a massive audience with a single, well-crafted idea. And for developers enrolled in Lens+ Payouts, this opens the door to earning directly from the experiences they design.

The feature is native to the GenAI Suite in Lens Studio, allowing both experienced and new developers to turn a single prompt into a published Lens in minutes with no external tools or complex workflows required.

AI Clips marks a significant shift in how we connect with AI videos, and we can’t wait to see the creativity of developers bring your photos to life in entirely new ways.
