Shrek has entered the soccer arena.

FIFA Heroes, the five-a-side mobile arcade football game developed by Enver Studio in partnership with FIFA, has launched a Shrek Season Pass, bringing characters from DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek franchise into the game through Aug. 10.

The Season Pass, live now, adds Shrek, Fiona, Puss in Boots, Gingy, Pinocchio, and Lord Farquaad as characters within FIFA Heroes. The crossover arrives as this summer marks the 25th anniversary of the original Shrek film, which launched a global blockbuster franchise after winning the 2001 Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The four Shrek films to date have earned more than $2.9 billion worldwide and expanded into a live-touring show, a Tony-nominated Broadway musical, an immersive London tourist attraction and events across Universal Studios theme parks.

During the Season Pass window, FIFA Heroes players can unlock rewards including Shrek and two additional characters, six character-themed emojis, new avatars featuring Donkey, and a unique goal celebration tied to the crossover.

FIFA Heroes bills itself as a mashup of football, entertainment, and pop culture, mixing football stars, FIFA World Cup mascots, content creators, mythical figures, and crossover characters into short, competitive arcade-style matches designed for quick sessions and shareable moments. It represents FIFA’s first licensed game since the organization’s game development partnership with Electronic Arts came to an end in 2022. The Shrek roster joins an already eclectic lineup that includes footballer Jude Bellingham, streamer IShowSpeed, and musicians Central Cee, J Balvin, and Luva de Pedreiro.

According to an emailed statement from a FIFA Heroes representative, IShowSpeed’s inclusion reflects a deliberate strategy: the game is designed around how younger football fans actually engage with the sport today, largely through clips, creators and social media, rather than solely through on-pitch talent. The representative described IShowSpeed as one of the most-followed creators in the world and a genuine football phenomenon in his own right, and said his presence alongside Central Cee, J Balvin, and Luva de Pedreiro reflects an effort to represent the musicians, creators, and personalities who shape football culture today alongside traditional players.

The tie-in also arrives as DreamWorks Animation prepares to reintroduce the Shrek franchise to a new generation. Shrek 5 is set to arrive in cinemas in June 2027, with original stars Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy reprising their roles as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey, respectively, joined by Emmy winner Zendaya as Shrek and Fiona’s daughter. Antonio Banderas is also expected to return as Puss in Boots.

The FIFA Heroes Season Pass is one of several ways Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) has extended the Shrek franchise beyond film in recent years, alongside a consumer products campaign, digital extensions, and a global animation exhibition tour. UP&E oversees NBCUniversal’s portfolio of brands and characters across Universal Pictures, Illumination, DreamWorks Animation, and NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, and is part of Universal Destinations & Experiences, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation.

FIFA Heroes is available now on iOS and Android, with PC and console versions planned for a later release.
