Rovio unveils its ‘other white meat’: a Bad Piggies game

Angry Birds Space, the most recent Angry Birds title from Rovio, has dropped to No. 47 on the top-grossing list in the U.S. iTunes App Store. To rebound from that weak spot, Rovio is launching its Bad Piggies game Sept. 27 on iOS (Apple iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch) and the Mac.

The evil pigs are the villains of Rovio’s lucrative and popular franchise, which more than a billion have played to make it the most successful mobile game series in history. And there’s no slingshot in sight.

“There’s a lot of empathy toward the lovable enemies from the Angry Birds games, and we’ve been constantly asked: What about the pigs’ side of the story?” said Mikael Hed, the CEO of Rovio. “Bad Piggies gives you the chance to play as the second-most-loved characters in the Angry Birds universe and explore this rich world through their green eyes.”

Windows Phone, Windows 8 and PC versions should follow shortly after the Apple launch.

“We’ve had a lot of fun creating a totally new and unique gameplay experience,” said Petri Järvilehto, the EVP Games at Rovio. “There’s so much more to these pigs than what is seen in the Angry Birds games, and Bad Piggies is the first glimpse into what’s going on in the imaginative and ingenious minds of the pigs.”
