The biggest game is now natively available on the biggest console.

Today, April 14, Roblox announced that will soon be available natively on the PlayStation 5, with the company slated to launch an official Roblox PlayStation app at 2 p.m. PDT. The new app is an updated version of the previous PlayStation Roblox launcher rolled out in 2023, offering 30-percent-faster load times and enhanced support for DualSense controllers, according to an official PlayStation blog post sharing the news.

Roblox’s native launch on the PlayStation 5 represents “another step toward our vision of making Roblox accessible anywhere, for everyone,” according to a Roblox spokesperson in an email to GamesBeat. In addition to the PlayStation 5, Roblox is now available across most major gaming platforms, including mobile and PC devices, Xbox consoles and Meta Quest virtual reality headsets.

Roblox creators are excited about the platform’s PlayStation 5 expansion, with some creators intentionally adjusting their experiences to be attuned to console play, per the PlayStation blog post. Dueling Grounds creator Wingboy0, for example, built a camera lock system into his game so console players wouldn’t have to constantly readjust their view while playing the game.

“We expect to reach players who enjoy atmospheric horror and console gaming but who didn’t previously think of Roblox as a platform for them,” said kharbor_ykt and Graizorko, the creators of the horror game Scary Shawarma Kiosk, in the PlayStation blog post.

The PlayStation audience appears to be primed and ready for Roblox’s user-generated content. Last year, Roblox was the fourth-most-popular game on the PlayStation 5 platform, even without a native app. Fortnite — Roblox’s largest competitor in the UGC gaming arena — was No. 1. Roblox’s updated app, with its faster load times and ease of access, could help the platform gain some ground against its rival on the PlayStation 5.
