Q is back, and he’s not done with Voyager’s crew yet.
Daedalic Entertainment and developer GameXcite announced Q Trials, a free new game mode for Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, launching October 1 alongside the premium Equinox DLC. The release lands as Star Trek marks its 60th anniversary.
Q Trials introduces randomized events, shifting routes and new crew-building freedom to the Delta Quadrant survival strategy game, drawing on roguelike influences the developers have compared to Frostpunk and FTL. Players can experiment with unconventional crew combinations — an all-Borg roster, for instance — though Q, ever the meddler, will react to those choices throughout the journey.
John de Lancie reprises his role as Q for a new trailer introducing the mode, continuing the character’s decades-long association with the Star Trek franchise.
The Equinox DLC arrives the same day, adding the U.S.S. Equinox as a second playable ship for Q Trials, along with three characters from Star Trek: Voyager’s fourth season: Captain Rudolph Ransom, Maxwell Burke and Noah Lessing. The Equinox is a smaller, less-equipped vessel than Voyager, with reduced crew capacity and weaker warp power, raising the difficulty for players who take command of it.
Q Trials and the Equinox DLC launch October 1 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown sends players across 12 sectors of the Delta Quadrant, blending exploration, ship and resource management, and narrative choices that reshape the fates of familiar Voyager characters and the configuration of the ship itself. The game has continued to expand since launch through free updates and an Expansion Pass. The title is funded in part by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space.
The game is developed by GameXcite, a Hamburg-based studio founded in 2015 that produces mobile, PC and console titles built on licensed IP. GameXcite is a subsidiary of Jumpgate AB, which trades on Stockholm’s NGM Nordic SME exchange under the ticker Gate.
Daedalic Entertainment, the game’s publisher, is marking its 20th year in the industry. The Nacon-owned label — Daedalic has operated as a Nacon subsidiary since April 2022 — works with roughly 45 employees across development studios on titles spanning storytelling, strategy, co-op and wholesome games. Its catalog includes The Occultist, New Cycle, Barotrauma, Unrailed!, Bloodgrounds, Into the Emberlands, Deponia, Shadow Tactics, Inkulinati, Hidden Deep and Fling to the Finish! Upcoming releases include Woodo and the Barotrauma Home & Harbor Expansion.
