Web gaming platform Poki partnered with Sybo, the mobile games studio behind the most downloaded game of all time: Subway Surfers.
Two additional titles from the Subway Surfers universe, Subway Surfers Blast and Subway Surfers Match, are now available via the browser to Poki’s 100 million monthly active users.
This expanded partnership follows the significant success of the original Subway Surfers on Poki. In the seven years since its web debut, Subway Surfers has become one of the top-performing titles on Poki, logging over 1.7 billion total gameplay sessions and 21,000 years of combined playtime.
Web gaming has undergone a renaissance in recent years thanks to advances in mobile browser and HTML5 technology. Poki was founded in 2014, at a time when Flash-based games dominated the web gaming ecosystem, and has consistently grown its platform despite the dominance of walled garden storefronts. This means Poki is ideally placed to serve developers’ appetite for a more diverse distribution ecosystem and fresh user and revenue growth.
The two games joining Poki extend the Subway Surfers intellectual property, converting the energy of the original endless runner into an accessible puzzle format along with collectibles and customisation features:
- Subway Surfers Blast: A high-energy tile-matching puzzle game that integrates core Subway Surfers features and characters, allowing players to collect stars to unlock and decorate unique locations and customise their environment.
- Subway Surfers Match: A match-3 puzzle adventure that allows players to explore the vibrant Subway City. Players solve challenging puzzles to unlock new areas and personalise their experience through discovering new in-game locations.
Mathias Gredal Nørvig, CEO at Sybo, said in a statement, “As the most downloaded mobile game of all time, we’re passionate about bringing Subway Surfers to as many gamers as possible across platforms and devices. Our collaboration with Poki helps us accomplish that. Bringing Subway Surfers Blast and Subway Surfers Match to the web allows players of our original title to experience Subway Surfers in a whole new way, and help others discover the franchise for the first time.”
Michiel van Amerongen, cofounder of Poki, said in a statement, “The extraordinary success of Subway Surfers on Poki demonstrates the power of web to connect established titles with millions of new users. We’re delighted to extend our partnership with Sybo and proud they have once again trusted us to be the home of their IP on web, meeting our players’ voracious appetite for high-quality, free-to-play content. We look forward to continuing to build the future of casual gaming together.”
Poki is a web gaming platform available in over 100 countries globally, providing a safe and non-intrusive place to play. Subway Surfers Match and Subway Surfers Blast join the more than 1,000 high-quality, curated games developed on Poki’s platform, developed by more than 500 studios including Madbox, Fingersoft and rising indie stars.
