Nintendo today revealed that it intends to raise the price on the original Switch as well as several of its accessories and models in the United States. The 7-year-old console and its younger siblings will go up in price by as much as $50, depending on the model. This news comes swift on the heels of the company’s reveal that the Switch 2 successor console has sold just under 6 million units as of the end of June.
The company’s announcement reads: “Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products will change in the United States based on market conditions, effective August 3, 2025. These include Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite and select Nintendo Switch accessories.”
The company revealed in its latest earnings report that the Switch 2 has sold 5.82 million units in the last quarter — meaning that it’s probably passed the 6 million milestone as of today. Quarterly sales went up 132% year-over-year, with profits going up by 18% (presumably offset by the cost of the hardware).
The company also confirmed that it doesn’t intend to raise the Switch 2’s price, at this time: “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time.” That said, it notes that it may have to hike up the price in the future, and certain Switch 2 accessories are also going up in price (though it didn’t say which ones).
