Nintendo decided to flex its muscles with its the new app, Nintendo Today, by releasing a crucial news update first there: Namely, the release date for the upcoming The Legend of Zelda film. The live-action movie is set to release in theaters on March 26, 2027. At present, we don’t have any other information about the film in the announcement, but a release date is enough to surmise how the production is going to go.

The company revealed their new app as a “One More Thing” at the end of this week’s Direct, saying it would be the site of all their major news announcements going forward. It has now proved this, revealing the Zelda news before it even did so on social media.

The Legend of Zelda — the film, that is — was first announced in 2023, with Avi Arad and Shigeru Miyamoto producing and Wes Ball directing. Nintendo and Sony are financing it jointly. The production doesn’t have an announced cast, but filming will likely begin sometime in 2026 based on the launch date.
