A Bloons animated series is coming to television screens as early as late 2026.
Bloons developer Ninja Kiwi is currently working with the production company Digital Smiles on a 30-minute pilot of an animated series inspired by the long-running video game franchise. The pilot will take the form of 10 three-minute episodes intended to expand on the origins of the Bloons universe and its central monkey characters, demonstrating that the property can carry a full fictional narrative, according to Ninja Kiwi CEO Scott Walker in an interview with GamesBeat. The upcoming show is inspired by “The Story of Monkeys vs Bloons,” an animated short Ninja Kiwi published on YouTube in October 2024.
“A year and a half ago, I wrote a script for a pilot, a sort of teaser of Bloons’ origins. The monkeys telling a story of how it all started — a retrospective and a chance for the community to go back through Bloons Tower Defense 1 through 6,” Walker said. “We did that on our own, and then we were like, ‘This feels really good. We should pursue this.'”
Gaming is a hot property in Hollywood in 2026, with gaming IP powering successful films and television series from “Fallout” to “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” Bloons is one of the most lasting gaming properties to emerge from the online Flash game era, and Ninja Kiwi has already expanded the IP into merchandise like plushies and prints since its initial launch in 2007. Walker shared the news about the upcoming Bloons TV series during a broader conversation about the 20th anniversary of the Bloons series — stay tuned for more GamesBeat coverage from that interview.
In the lead-up to the release of Ninja Kiwi’s upcoming Bloons television series, the company has intentionally inserted more worldbuilding into Bloons games. Frontier Legends, the most recent piece of Bloons Tower Defense 6 downloadable content released on November 2025, was based on a 40-page script, per Walker.
“In BTD 6 in particular, we’ve been adding lore, and then we’ve added DLCs to BTD 6, which are telling more stories,” said the Ninja Kiwi CEO.
Walker said the upcoming Bloons TV series is on track to be ready “toward the end of the year,” and that Ninja Kiwi plans to release the series online, but declined to share more specifics about the marketing and distribution plan for the show. However, he flagged his company’s strong relationships with major streaming platforms, pointing out that Bloons Tower Defense is one of the best-performing games on Netflix Games.
“We’ve got great relationships with Apple and Amazon, so we’d love to keep those conversations moving,” he said.
