Nexon and Chernin Entertainment have teamed up to bring the games ARC Raiders and The Finals to film and television.
Chernin Entertainment, started by entertainment mogul Peter Chernin, is the flagship scripted film and television label of The North Road Company. It’s been tapped to serve as the lead producer on film and television adaptations of two hit games from Nexon’s Embark Studios: ARC Raiders and The Finals. Chernin Entertainment was chosen from a competitive field of production companies and studios vying for the rights.
ARC Raiders is set on a lethal future Earth ravaged by a mysterious mechanized threat known as ARC, where players enlist as Raiders to scavenge a vibrant, atmospheric world while contending with deadly machines and rival Raiders.
Since launching in October 2025, the game has become one of the industry’s breakout hits: it drew 250,000 concurrent Steam players on launch day, surpassed 700,000 concurrent players across platforms within its first two weeks, and has gone on to sell more than 16 million copies worldwide.
The game was named Best Multiplayer Game at The Game Awards 2025, Online Game of the Year at the 29th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards, and the Best Multiplayer award at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards. ARC Raiders’ largest content update to date, Frozen Trail, is slated for release on October 8.
The Finals is a free-to-play, fast-paced, first-person shooter set inside a virtual combat game show. It has registered more than 30 million players in three years.
Players compete for fame and fortune in destructible arenas modeled after real-world locations like Monaco and Las Vegas. The game features unscripted, server-side, physics-driven environmental destruction. The upcoming season of The Finals is scheduled for release on October 20.

“Nexon’s agreement with Chernin Entertainment is the next big step in growing ARC Raiders and The Finals into deeply integrated transmedia experiences that reward the passion of our global player community,” said Patrick Söderlund, CEO of Embark Studios and executive chairman of Nexon, in a statement. “Throughout the process, the creative teams at Embark Studios will work closely with Chernin to ensure the creativity that defines both of these properties extends into all-new formats.”
“ARC Raiders and The Finals are exactly the kind of opportunities we’ve been building towards at Chernin Entertainment: ambitious global IP with the potential to become major franchises across film and television,” said David Ready, president of film at Chernin Entertainment, in a statement. “Nexon and Embark have created visually stunning, atmospheric worlds that contain countless stories to tell. We’re honored they’ve trusted us to unite our film and television teams to tell those stories.”
The deal comes on the heels of a strong run for Chernin Entertainment. On the film side, recent hits include Backrooms, which grossed over $400 million worldwide on a $10 million budget; The Last House, which debuted as Netflix’s No. 1 movie with 27.5 million opening-weekend views; and Apex, currently the No. 5 most-watched movie on Netflix in 2026 with over 129 million views.
Chernin also recently inked a new multi-year, first-look feature film deal with Apple TV+. For television, the company’s slate includes the Apple TV series Chief of War, Truth Be Told, and See, and the Netflix hits The Madness and Man on Fire.
In January, Mediawan, the leading independent European studio, announced the signing of an agreement to acquire The North Road Company. The combination creates one of the world’s largest independent studios with major creative hubs across five continents and capabilities spanning all genres, formats, and audiences. North Road and its labels will serve as Mediawan’s North American hub.
Nexon is a global leader in online games, with blockbuster properties that include MapleStory, Dungeon&Fighter, FC Online, Mabinogi, and Dave the Diver, which rank among the entertainment industry’s most enduring, popular and successful franchises. Sustained by world-class live operations, Nexon’s games thrive and grow for decades with new generations of players worldwide.
The North Road Company, recently acquired by Mediawan, the leading global independent studio based in Paris, was established by Peter Chernin in 2022.
