A new Destiny T-Shirt is helping raise money for Nepal.
Saturday’s earthquake in central Nepal has left parts of the country devasted, with fears that as many as 10,000 people have died. An estimated eight million people have been affected by the disaster, which has destroyed 70,000 houses. Relief efforts are struggling to get through, but developer Bungie is trying to offer support by selling charity T-Shirts featuring characters from Destiny, its popular first-person sci-fi shooter. The gaming community is well known for contributing to good causes, and it’s already rallying behind Bungie’s effort, with 1,000 T-Shirts sold within hours of launch.
The charity T-Shirt is available on Bungie’s online store for $25, with all profits going to “recognized charities providing direct relief efforts in Nepal.” It features the three Destiny character classes — hunter, warlock, and titan — standing alongside a Nepalese flag, looking off into the mountainous Nepalese landscape. Nepal has eight of the ten world’s tallest mountains, including Everest.
The T-Shirt is due to ship in June, and anyone buying it will also get a Nepal-themed emblem and shader — an item which changes the appearance of armor — to use in the game.
“Nepal needs help now, Guardians,” reads the store page. “Answer the call and become a real legend.”
