Minecraft is launching its first new dimension in 14 years.

On September 26, Microsoft-owned Mojang Studios hosted Minecraft Live, Minecraft’s regular online broadcast where they revealed major updates, new game features, and upcoming projects across the Minecraft franchise.

This time around, the studio announced the arrival of The Sift, a new dimension coming to Java and Bedrock next year, along with a September 29 launch date for Minecraft Dungeons II. The virtual show also offered fans a first look at the real-world Minecraft theme park and hotel, announced earlier this year, as well as a new creator platform initiative, and a handful of smaller game updates.

Mojang’s reveal of The Sift sent Minecraft fans across the globe into a frenzy. The Sift will be Minecraft’s first new dimension in more than 14 years. The brand new dimension joins the Overworld, the Nether, and the End as the game’s fourth dimension, bringing players a whole new world and set of adventures to uncover. The dimension will launch in Java and Bedrock Editions of the game at some point next year, and Mojang describes it as bringing new dangers, discovery and mystery.

In addition to the launch of this brand new dimension, Mojang also revealed that Minecraft Dungeons II is set to launch in just a few days, on September 29. This second iteration of the studio’s action role-play game will expand the interconnected Dungeons world, adding deeper character customization, approachable combat and cooperative multiplayer, according to the studio’s press release. Additionally, Mojang revealed that players will have the option to explore The Sift for the first time inside Dungeons II, ahead of its arrival in the main game next year.

Among the buzz-filled announcements, Mojang also updated fans about Minecraft World, the United Kingdom-based amusement park that they unveiled on March 21 of this year. While Mojang had previously shared the news of the park’s construction at an earlier Minecraft Live, this month’s announcement offered fans their first real look at the real-world Minecraft attraction.

According to Mojang’s announcement, Minecraft World will feature an indoor/outdoor coaster called Escape the Nether, as well as a Minecraft World Hotel, where guests can immerse themselves in the world of their favorite game. The park is set to open in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, on the outskirts of London.

Mojang Studios also announced a new initiative aimed at their creator community. Chief Creative Officer Jens Bergeström described it as Minecraft’s mission to “inspire and enable new generations of Minecraft creators, (…) by removing some of the obstacles standing in your way.”

The Mojang division of Xbox has been consistently strong over the years. Asha Sharma, Chief Executive Officer at Xbox, has noted that it has been subsidizing a lot of other divisions that are not as financially strong. Mojang now reports directly to Sharma, and the expectation is that Microsoft will reinvest a lot more in Minecraft itself, making it a stronger rival to other UGC platforms like Roblox and Fortnite.

According to Bergeström, Minecraft is working on “improving  tools and systems to make it easier to create, manage, and share game content” for creators.

Finally, Mojang Studios also revealed some smaller game drops as well as new community features. Minecraft’s next game drop will center on a brand new biome: frozen caves. The Frozen Caves biome was framed as an underground extension beneath cold biomes, adorned with glowing ice crystals, icy hazards, and a brand-new frozen zombie variant.

Minecraft announced the Wilderness Bound community challenge as a follow-up to the Wilderness Bound release, centered on a forest expedition that unlocks Character Creator items and Java Skins. Mojang also unveiled the new Sound Effects Packs, launching on the Minecraft Marketplace before the end of 2026.

Lastly, Minecraft is also launching on Nintendo Switch 2, coming October 27, and Minecraft: Education Edition is marking its 10 year anniversary.
