Minecraft

I hope you remembered to get your annual present for Microsoft — a payment of $59.99 for Xbox Live Gold — because then the company will remember to give you your holiday gift: a free Minecraft documentary.

Minecraft: The Story of Mojang will begin airing on Xbox Live on Saturday, December 22. It is free to anyone with an Xbox Live Gold account.

The show from 2 Player Productions (Penny Arcade: The Series, Double Fine Adventure’s upcoming documentary) will cover the rise of everyone’s favorite block-building game and its Swedish developer, Mojang. Naturally, Mojang founder Markus “Notch” Persson is a central figure in the movie, and a big part of the movie’s arc focuses on his efforts to build a video game company.

To check out details about the premier including a trailer, navigate to the Minecraft tile on the Xbox Live homepage.

The film originally secured full funding as a Kickstarter project. It raised $210,297, which surpassed the stated $150,000 goal.
