Microsoft hiring for ‘the next version of Forza Motorsport’

Forza Motorsport

The open-world spin-off Forza Horizon is due out October 23. British developer Playground Games is the lead developer on that entry in the Forza Motorsport series, with traditional franchise developer Turn 10 Studios offering a small amount of guidance.

So, if Turn 10 isn’t giving its full attention to Forza Horizon, then what is it up to?

According to a job posting on Microsoft.com, the Washington-based developer is hiring a software engineer for what could be Forza Motorsport 5.

From the listing:

We are Turn 10 Studios, and we need you for the next version of Forza Motorsport.

We are looking for a strong senior software engineer to own the testing of our multiplayer networking system. You’ll be working directly with your counterparts in dev, design, and project managers to design and build a secure, reliable, and scalable multiplayer system. You will also be responsible for efficiently leveraging contingent staff to accomplish your tasks.

Unless it’s only now getting around to building the network code for Forza Horizon, which is out in less than a month, it sounds like Forza Motorsport 5 development is getting under way.

The job details offer no information about which system the racing game is in development for, so any next-gen talk would just be speculation … but the timing seems right for this to end up as a launch game on the next Xbox.
