Microsoft unveiled a story trailer for Metro 2039, the next game in the Metro series. The game is coming in February 2027.

The series primarily centers around the Moscow Metro, where survivors of a nuclear war emerge, only to find mutated creatures, toxic air, and radiation on the surface decades later.

Inside the Metro, there are warring factions in a dark, dystopian future. Among them is the Novoreich faction of neo nazis. The narrator of the trailer bemoans the lost Spartans who defended the Metro in the past.

The company made the announcement at the Xbox Showcase during Summer Game Fest week in Los Angeles.

The game is being developed with the writer of the Metro 2033, 2034 and 2035 trilogy, Dmitri Glukhovsky. The game is “proudly developed in Ukraine.”
