Mech Mocha’s Chhota Bheem Himalayan Game beats new Cut the Rope in India’s Google Play charts

It looks like the Indian mobile market appreciates home-grown gaming.

Indian mobile developer Mech Mocha revealed to GamesBeat today that its latest release, Chhota Bheem Himalayan Game (an platform runner based off of a popular cartoon character in the country), is No. 1 on Google Play’s chart for top free games in India, beating Cut the Rop: Magic. This is a nice achievement, since it’s difficult for small companies to beat the giants of mobile gaming in any country. While games like Candy Crush Saga come from outside of India, Mech Mocha focuses on creating apps that resonate with Indian culture. The Indian mobile market is expected to grow to $3 billion by 2019 — so it’s encouraging to other Indian developers to see a game from the homeland hit the top spot.
