Mattel announced today that it is developing a new Barbie game with Outright Games, called Barbie Horse Trails. The single-player game puts Barbie back in the saddle for the first time since 2008 in a nature-inspired adventure where she explores the wilderness with her companion, Lucky. The game launches on October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
In the game, you can play as either “Brooklyn” Barbie or “Malibu” Barbie, to join a team called the Junior Rangers under the auspices of Ken’s aunt Lady Carson. The game features nature exploration, photography and archaeology in addition to equestrian pursuits.
Horse Trails inherits the legacy of previous Barbie games, in particular the Horse Adventures series developed by Vivendi in the 00s. The iconic doll has since made appearances in other games, in particular Roblox via GameFam. Outright Games also previously made the most recent Barbie title, Project Friendship, in 2024.
Stephanie Malham, Outright Games managing director, said in a statement, “It’s a privilege to collaborate with Mattel again on such an iconic brand and incorporating the beloved equestrian element into Barbie Horse Trails really takes the adventure to new heights. We’ve created a game that immerses players in a beautiful open-world environment full of exciting adventures, making it an experience that fans of all ages will love.”
