Love your favorite game mod? Show it with #modlove2015

Mod DB, Curse, GameBanana, Run Shoot Think Live, and other modder hangouts are launching a new “feel the love” campaign for game mod developers this week: #modlove2015.

All week, the companies are urging players to tweet, post on Facebook, or blog about their favorite mods using the hashtag. Sure, you might win some games — but the point is to give a shout out to the mod makers you like best.

Mod DB and the others dreamed up the campaign after Valve announced support for paid mods (including those for Skyrim) and then canceled it five days later after a firestorm of gamer reaction.

“Mods are such an important part of PC gaming,” Mod DB community manager Aaron/TKAzA wrote. “But it occurred to us that until the community found its voice a few weeks back, we mostly took all the hard work and effort mod teams put in — while asking for nothing in return — for granted.”

Hence, the hashtag was born.

Mod DB and GameBanana have added a “love bar” to every mod on their sites, allowing visitors to easily profess their love of their favorite mods. Happy feedback about mods hosted anywhere are welcome, they say; if you link your kudos post in the comments on the Mod DB #modlove2015 post or the GameBanana thread, you’ll be entered in a drawing for more than 500 Steam keys for games that support mods or began their lives as mods. (So your odds are pretty good!)

Authors of CurseForge mods will also have a chance to get a $100 credit to their accounts if you Tweet your praise. They’ll give games to random players who use the #modlove2015 hashtag.
