It looks like we’re about to have another Kickstarter success story.

With seven days left until its deadline, That Dragon, Cancer has raised $79,981 of its $85,000 goal on Kickstarter.

That Dragon, Cancer is an adventure game that takes its inspiration from Ryan and Amy Green’s son Joel’s 4-year battle with cancer. The project is meant to honor his memory. Normally, games with unorthodox themes like this would have a hard time finding a publisher, but Kickstarter gives independent developers a way to fund games through donations from regular people.

The Kickstarter is also a partnership with Ouya, the Android-based gaming console that itself started life as a Kickstarter project. You don’t hear about many Ouya games these days, although That Dragon, Cancer also promises a release on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux if it is funded.
