IXI, the pioneer behind the world’s first autofocus glasses, announced at SILMO, two deals to make its eyewear by strengthening its production pipeline in Europe.

IXI has acquired the lens manufacturing and development facility of Finnsusp in Finland and has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with OptiSwiss, one of Europe’s leading independent lens manufacturers.

This shows that this astounding feat of creating glasses that can adapt and focus in real time is more than smoke and mirrors. The company said this move marks a major milestone in IXI’s mission to transform vision correction.

By disrupting the $200 billion eyewear market with dynamic lenses that automatically adapt to the wearer’s eyes, IXI is creating an entirely new category of eyewear.

Niko Eiden, CEO and cofounder of IXI, said in a statement, “For us, we’re intentionally building our production base in Europe. This is where the deepest expertise in optical precision and design lives, and we’ve brought together the people who know it best. These milestones are important steps on the path toward bringing our technology to the world. Our mission is simple: create eyewear that transforms how people see, without ever compromising on comfort or design.”

With the new lens development facility in Finland, IXI gains not only a fully equipped manufacturing base but also the deep expertise of an established team. Integrating this proven capability with IXI’s proprietary liquid crystal technology will accelerate product development, enhance quality control, and establish a solid foundation for long-term innovation in smart eyewear.

Riikka Järvinen, CEO of Finnsusp, said in a statement, “At Finnsusp, we’re proud to pass on our heritage and expertise in lens technologies to IXI. By combining our facilities with IXI’s advanced design and engineering, this acquisition will help power the next wave of innovation and play a defining role in shaping the future of eyewear. With this business transaction, our company will now focus on its international core business, especially the development and manufacturing of dry eye and contact lens care products.”

Alongside the acquisition, IXI has entered a partnership with OptiSwiss. Founded in 1937, OptiSwiss has over 85 years of experience in high-precision optics and today operates one of Europe’s most advanced lens production facilities. The partnership combines IXI’s breakthrough autofocus lens technology with OptiSwiss’s proven ability to manufacture at scale.

Samuel Frei, CEO of OptiSwiss CEO, said in a statement, “Optiswiss has stood for Swiss quality, precision, and craftsmanship for decades, powered by one of the most advanced production facilities in the heart of Europe. As an independent company, we are driven by innovation and excited to partner with IXI on a truly forward-thinking approach – one that has the potential to reshape the eyewear industry and set new standards for the future.”

IXI wants to redefine eyewear with breakthrough autofocus lenses that adapt in real time, offering an innovative alternative to traditional bifocals and varifocals. By uniting proprietary innovation with world-class manufacturing, IXI is creating glasses that deliver comfort, natural appearance, and seamless technology – ushering in the new era of vision.

Together, these two developments provide IXI with the full spectrum of resources – an in-house innovation hub in Finland and a world-class production partner in Switzerland – establishing a European pathway from production to future consumer consumption of the world’s first autofocus glasses.
