Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a visually stunning 2D brawler for the Nintendo Wii. It’s beautiful despite the Wii’s standard-definition hardware capabilities.

Today, publisher Aksys Games announced it will release Muramasa Rebirth for the PlayStation Vita. Rebirth is a remake of the Muramasa: The Demon Blade. It will take the original and up the visuals for the PlayStation Vita’s high-definition screen.

Muramasa Rebirth will also feature downloadable content. The publisher will sell four additional characters on the PlayStation Network store.

Muramasa follows the adventures of Momohime, a possessed princess, and Kisuke, a ninja who lost his memories. They are both after the demon blades, of which the game has 108. Each weapon has a special ability that changes the way a character controls and attacks.

Aksys did not provide a release date for Muramasa Rebirth. Muramasa: The Demon Blade developer Vanillaware is working on a new 2D brawler called Dragon’s Crown for the PlayStation 3 and Vita. That game is due out later this year.
