GGP will award $90K in prize money during Collegiate Games Challenge livestream on August 13

Gay Gaming Professionals (GGP), the nonprofit that fosters emerging talent in the video game industry, will award $90,000 in prize money during a livestream for its Collegiate Games Challenge on August 13.

GGP will host the Winners Livestream on Wednesday, August 13th, at 3 p.m. Pacific time. As judged by video game industry veterans, students will earn accolades and $90,000 in prize money during a live show.

Hosted by GGP and IGN.com, the show will highlight student work as well as feature segments with esteemed industry judges such as John Heinecke, Melissa Bell and Leo Olebe, and will be hosted by gamer and personality, Keisha Howard AKA Sugargamer.

Students, working with faculty from universities such as DePaul, UCLA and Michigan State submitted their game projects, game trailers and go-to-market plans for consideration. Students may have developed their submissions during the academic year, continuing to refine them through the early summer for the competition.

“We have 4 core programs: GGP Scholars, CYSTEM, GGP Honors and now the Collegiate Games Challenge, that emphasize working in video games with leadership, compassion and collaborative competition,” said Gordon Bellamy, CEO of GGP, in a statement. “The students in the Collegiate Games Challenge have now experienced making and marketing a game, receiving valuable feedback and accolades from industry veterans like Pete Hines and Clive Lindop.

August 13 is not the end of the Collegiate Games Challenge. It’s just the beginning. Students interested in next year’s competition can get a head start by joining the Collegiate Games Challenge Discord where the group hosts community events, such as playtesting fellow students’ work, networking and hearing thought leadership from the judges.
