The gaming industry is rapidly evolving — and Rob Dyer is prepared.
Dyer has served as Capcom’s chief operating officer since 2018, leading the publisher’s publishing and business development initiatives across platforms and properties. During his nearly eight years at Capcom, Dyer has helped shepherd the launches of prominent titles like “Street Fighter” and “Resident Evil;” before joining the company, he spent stints at a laundry list of other leading media and gaming firms, from Disney to Zynga. In a nutshell: This guy knows games.
Dyer was a featured speaker at last November’s GamesBeat Next conference, and GamesBeat lead news writer Alexander Lee took advantage of his presence to sit down with the Capcom COO for a wide-ranging conversation about the past, present and future of the gaming industry for an episode of the BIG Show, GamesBeat’s new podcast. The 15-minute chat touched on quite a few of the buzzy topics driving conversations within the industry, including AI and user-generated content — and covered the conscious ways in which Capcom is adapting to these trends.
“Game developers don’t have all the great ideas,” Dyer said. “There’s a lot of very smart people out there that are hardcore fans — that love their game, and they want to do something — and I love that.”
