Frosthaven received its second major Early Access content update, Legacy of the Algox, today, expanding the digital adaptation of the acclaimed board game with new playable classes, story content, and progression systems.
The free update is available now for players on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, publisher Arc Games announced today, January 22.
Developed by Snapshot Games in collaboration with board game creator Isaac Childres and Cephalofair Games, Frosthaven is the digital evolution of the tabletop hit and a spiritual successor to Gloomhaven. The Early Access update continues Snapshot’s strategy of steadily layering in content while refining systems ahead of the game’s full release.
Legacy of the Algox introduces a brand-new narrative arc centered on the Algox tribes, shifting the campaign’s focus toward political tension, cooperation, and difficult choices. With the Unfettered threat resolved, players must navigate escalating conflict among the Algox and determine how the future of Frosthaven will unfold.
The update also adds three new playable character classes designed to expand tactical options and party composition.
The Shackles class manipulates pain itself, redirecting damage and negative effects from allies onto enemies. Drill, an ancient machine constructed from Unfettered parts, serves as a heavily armored melee tank with strong defensive capabilities. Astral harnesses elemental forces to empower attacks, heal allies, and conjure crystalline weapons in combat.
Beyond classes and story, the Legacy of the Algox update adds five new bosses, two additional biomes, and more than 25 new quests, significantly expanding the game’s scope for Early Access players. Town progression also continues to grow, with nine new building upgrades and Town Hall challenges that provide unique objectives and long-term bonuses.
The update introduces one additional pet, bringing the total number of discoverable companions to 11. Pets can be summoned from the Stables and brought into battle, offering unique abilities that add another strategic layer beyond standard cards and items. In total, players can now access 31 new items, further broadening build diversity.
These systems collectively push Frosthaven closer to its goal of delivering a full-featured digital campaign that mirrors, and in some areas improves on, the complexity of the tabletop experience.
Legacy of the Algox follows Frosthaven’s initial Early Access launch in summer 2025 and reflects Snapshot Games’ measured approach to development. Rather than rushing toward feature completeness, the studio is incrementally expanding content while incorporating player feedback, particularly around UX and quality-of-life improvements.
With co-op online multiplayer, adjustable difficulty settings for newcomers, and a deep tactical foundation for veterans, Frosthaven continues to bridge the gap between board game enthusiasts and strategy-focused PC players.
