Former Sony Europe exec takes CEO job at GameGenetics

Jeffry van Ede, a former Sony Europe executive, has been appointed chief executive of GameGenetics, a company that helps game companies find new users.

Van Ede will take over operational duties from founder Alexander Piutti in hopes of taking the Berlin startup to its next stage of growth. The company specializes in user acquisition for mobile and online games, an increasingly important task in modern gaming.

Van Ede has served as interim chief revenue officer at GameGenetics since January. After six years of building up the company, founder and former CEO Piutti plans to devote his time to a variety of private and social enterprises. Piutti will remain at GameGenetics in an advisory capacity.

Jeffry van Ede has extensive experience in numerous top management positions and joins GameGenetics from Backpack Consulting GmbH where he served as interim manager, and Goodz GmbH, which he cofounded.

Before that, van Ede worked as vice president of Sony Europe and managing director of Sony Germany for several years.

Piutti co-founded GameGenetics in 2009. Under Piutti’s leadership, the company grew from a small games portal run by a four-man team into a user acquisition specialist with more than 60 employees from 25 different countries. The company says it delivers more than 100 billion ad views per month to its partners, which include game developers with players in 185 countries.

“I’m grateful to Alexander Piutti for his trust in me”, van Ede said in a statement. “Together with the highly talented team that turned Piutti’s vision into a successful reality, I am going to lead GameGenetics to the next stage of growth.”

GameGenetics said it has more than 3,000 channel partners, such as Dell.

“With Jeffry van Ede on board, GameGenetics has gained an experienced manager who will scale up the company with his enthusiasm and hands-on approach”, Piutti said in a statement. “In the past six years my team and I built up GameGenetics from a simple idea to an international player in the market.”
