One of the surprise announcements at today’s Nintendo Partner Direct was the reveal of a new Plants vs. Zombies game — or, to be more exact, a remaster of one. PopCap and Electronic Arts revealed Plants vs. Zombies: Replanted, which launches on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via the EA App, Epic Games Store and Stream.

This new version of Plants vs. Zombies gets a graphical refresh as well as a number of fresh game modes. One of those is local co-op and PvP, letting players battle each other from the couch. It also has two new modes: Cloudy Day, which limits sunlight to add an extra layer of difficulty; and Rest in Peace, a permadeath mode.

This is, of course, on top of the classic defense gameplay and a selection of minigames. In addition to the new gameplay, Replanted has a wealth of archival content to “understand how Plants vs. Zombies took over the world,” according to EA. Replanted is currently available to pre-order ahead of its October launch.

This marks the return of Plants vs. Zombies to PC and console, after the second and third entries in the series launched on mobile. Plants vs. Zombies 3 was taken offline last year after a soft launch so that the developers could give it a rework, though there’s been no news on it since. The last PvZ game to launch on console was the third-person shooter spin-off, Battle for Neighborville.
