dLocal, a cross-border payment platform specializing in high-growth markets, today announced its partnership with Eneba, a fast-growing marketplace with over 10 million registered users and 80,000 products for gamers.
The partnership between dLocal and Eneba aims to create accessible payments for gaming for the over 316 million gamers in Latin America (136.6 million coming from Brazil alon), 82% of which spend money on video games, through expanding the options of alternative payment methods (APMs).
“Easy access to local payment methods is one of the most frequent requests from our customers and the reason they decide to buy on Eneba. This partnership enables us to better cater to our user’s needs and help everyone in Latin America discover the joy of gaming” said Mantas Eitutis, head of payments and risk at Eneba, in a statement. “dLocal’s expertise in providing a seamless payments experience across the LATAM region gives us the confidence that our community can simply focus on playing their favorite games.”
The markets and payment methods that will be made accessible through this partnership include bank transfers, card and cash payments as well as PIX, in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay.
“Opening up the passionate gamers in Latin America to a vast array of gaming products is nothing short of a major achievement.” said Agustin Botta, dLocal’s head of EMEA, in a statement. “Serving growing, vibrant industries through providing accessible payments is, in my opinion, an underrated core of the value reliable cross-border payments solutions brings to the world. The joy of the experience and the communities they foster is enabled by payments, but at the same time, immeasurable.”
Origins
dLocal powers local payments in high-growth markets, connecting global enterprise merchants with billions of high-growth market consumers across Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Through the “One dLocal” concept (one direct API, one platform, and one contract), global companies can accept payments, send payouts, and settle funds globally without the need to manage separate pay-in and pay-out processors, set up numerous local entities, and integrate multiple acquirers and payment methods in each market.
dLocal was founded in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 2016 with the aim of becoming a comprehensive payment platform for large digital companies in emerging markets. The company said it is the bridge between global companies and consumers in high-growth markets so that millions can access the digital products and services they want and need. Now dLocal has more than 950 employees.
Since its inception, dLocal has focused on niche markets in these fast-growing economies. In 2020, this strategy allowed the company to achieve notable profitability, having doubled its sales and net income and becoming Uruguay’s first unicorn. In June 2021, dLocal marked a new milestone by becoming listed on Nasdaq, the American stock exchange for technology companies. This consolidated dLocal as one of Latin America’s most important fintech companies.
Eneba is a digital entertainment marketplace trusted by over 10 million registered users. It offers game keys for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch, gift cards, and mobile top-ups. Eneba aims to enable everyone to discover the joy of gaming by offering users competitive prices and deals on over 80,000 products, secure payments, quick refunds, and ready-to-help customer support.
Asked how it competes with Xsolla and others, dLocal said, “Xsolla is a great company that has been around for almost 20 years and has been pivotal to the growth and offering of the gaming industry. However, while Xsolla’s main focus is the gaming industry and not just payments, dLocal’s offering is tailored for many industries (retail, streaming, e-commerce, SaaS, Social Media, etc.), gaming included. dLocal competes with Xsolla in the payments landscape when it comes to gaming, and even then, there are many differences (dLocal operates locally in every country of its coverage, and the solutions differ a lot).”
In addition, the company said, “Moreover, dLocal processes transactions locally in every country from end to end, with a focus on emerging markets, while Xsolla’s focus is not on emerging markets but on the gaming industry. Our unique value proposition is the One dLocal model: whether the consumers are paying in Brazilian Reais through tPIX, a local instant payment method, or in Nigerian Naira via a local bank transfer, you have only one integration, one platform and one source of support. dLocal empowers its clients to access 2 billion users across 40 markets from a single contract.”
