Irish game developer Digit is platform-agnostic. The studio is working on Kings of the Realm, a cross-platform massively multiplayer online strategy game for iOS, Android, Windows, and web browsers.
Today, the company announced that it raised $2.5 million in a new round of funding to help bring its cross-platform games to market. Investment firm Delta Partners led the funding.
“This latest funding round helps accelerate Digit in its goal of disrupting the industry with new cross-platform technology and awesome games,” Digit chief executive officer Richard Barnwell said in a statement.
Kings of the Realm is the first example of Digit’s cross-platform technology. Not only does the game work across all its supported platforms, but players can quickly continue their progress on any device. Kings of the Realm is also capable of multiplayer games across ecosystems. In other words, an Android user can challenge and play a friend on iPhone.
“We’ve been working with the Digit team since the company was founded and have been very impressed with the vision and understanding of games industry,” Maurice Roche, the general partner at Delta, said in a statement. “We believe ‘seamlessly cross-platform’ games will be a transformational development in the games industry, and the Digit management team has the experience and drive to be a global leader in this segment.”
