Paradox Interactive announced today that the next mechanical expansion for Stellaris, called Cosmic Storms, launches on September 10 on PC. The expansion is part of Stellaris’s eighth season, and was developed in collaboration with Behavior Interactive. Players can harness or fight the titular cosmic storms to influence their place in the universe.

Cosmic Storms features eight new types of storms, including electric, particle and gravity storms, all of which impact Stellaris’s strategic gameplay. Players also have a new Storm Chaser origin option, being part of a group of people who believe “enlightenment is found in engaging with the greatest force the universe has to offer: the Cosmic Storms.”

The expansion also features two new Precursor narratives, three new Civics — Astrometeorology, Storm Devotion and Environmental Architects — as well as other technologies dedicated to reading and anticipating storms, such as a Weather Forecast Map Mode. Players can also unlock a new ascension perk that lets them create cosmic storms.

Cosmic Storms comes with the Season 8 expansion pass, but it can also be purchased as a standalone. It’s also included in Stellaris’s monthly subscription service.
