The entrepreneurs who started Colossal Biosciences, the firm that is trying to bring back the Woolly Mammoth, have raised $30 million for a stealth startup called Astromech.

Companies file Form D papers when they have raised money or have hit a milestone in the process. It isn’t clear what kind of business the new company, Astromech, is in.
The form lists Lamm and Church as cofounders for the company. It is in the technology sector and is registered in the state of Delaware. The filing date was August 12th, 2025.
Astromech is a name that comes from the Star Wars films. It’s a term that refers to repair droids like R2-D2.
Lamm and Church run Colossal Biosciences, the world’s first de-extinction company. It hopes to use genetics, AI and other tech to bring back extinct species such as the Woolly Mammoth, the Dodo, and other species. They made noise recently as they claimed they had re-created a version of the Dire Wolf, a kind of wolf that has been extinct for many years.
