Capcom has officially announced that Pragmata, its long-delayed sci-fi action shooter, will launch on April 24, 2026.

First revealed in 2020, Pragmata has resurfaced several times only to be pushed back and reshaped repeatedly. Now, Capcom is positioning the game as a major tentpole as the company continues its run of critically and commercially successful games.

Set in a dystopian near-future Earth and a sprawling lunar colony, Pragmata blends narrative-driven sci-fi storytelling with combat, traversal, and large-scale spectacle, all of which are elements Capcom has been increasingly confident in, as shown through titles like Dragon’s Dogma 2 and the ongoing reinvention of Resident Evil.

Its imagery of astronauts, rogue tech, and a mysterious android girl named Diana has fueled speculation for years. I got the chance to play it a few months ago at Capcom’s office in San Francisco, CA, and it really shocked me with how fluid and fun it was.

There’s also a hardware story here. With PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S now in maturity cycles—and PC continuing its explosive year—the market has room for visually ambitious projects that showcase proprietary technology. Pragmata gives Capcom another opportunity to leverage its RE Engine in a genre outside its usual comfort zone. Every major release powered by the engine has strengthened Capcom’s reputation for technical excellence, and a big-budget sci-fi action title could further expand its reach in Western markets.

With Capcom’s multi-year winning streak, Pragmata won’t simply be judged as a curiosity from the publisher; it will be expected to perform. The sci-fi action space is currently surging, with strong audience appetite for story-driven epics following hits like Stellar Blade, Armored Core VI, and more. Pragmata will enter the market at a time when unusual worlds and experimental sci-fi ideas can translate into major success if execution matches ambition.

Pragmata is out on April 24 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC with a Steam demo out now, coming later to consoles.
