During The Game Awards tonight, Capcom surprised everyone with the announcement of a brand-new 2D platformer game: Mega Man: Dual Override.
This will be a sidescrolling 2D platformer game just like the classics, but it will use a new cel-shaded art style that feels a bit like an evolution of Mega Man 11’s art style.
Details are scarce, but on the YouTube page, it says: “Mega Man returns in 2027 with a brand-new entry in the classic action platforming series! Override challenges and blast down legions of robots while springboarding across a new array of futuristic frontiers!”
The art style also reminds me a bit of Mega Man 8, of course, or even Maverick Hunter X back on PSP, which was a remake of X on SNES.
Having an official new entry in the series is fantastic news for longtime fans of Capcom’s iconic hero, or those like myself who continue to play older games to this day. The short trailer showcases the action well, so it looks to stay true to what makes the series so popular.
There is an official Mega Man: Dual Override listing on the Capcom website as well, but it doesn’t seem to be live as of the time of this writing.
