Build A Rocket Boy, the high-flying game studio started by Leslie Benzies, has laid off more people today as part of a restructuring.

Mark Gerhard, CEO of Build A Rocket Boy, said in a statement on LinkedIn, “Many talented developers across the world have been affected by layoffs and restructuring. Unfortunately, today we have to share that Build A Rocket Boy is not immune to those pressures. Today we are announcing a further number of redundancies at the studio.”

He said it was a painful decision and “as leaders we take responsibility for the outcomes of our projects and the decisions that follow.”

But he also noted that Build A Rocket Boy has been working with external partners and legal advisers to investigate the “criminal activity that took place around our launch.”

He said, “That work has taken far longer than expected, but it has now resulted in overwhelming evidence of organized espionage and corporate sabotage affecting MindsEye.”

Build A Rocket Boy’s MindsEye, released in a buggy state, was one of the big disappointments when it launched last year. The disappointment was all the greater because Benzies was one of the leaders of the successful Grand Theft Auto game series before leaving Rockstar Games.

Gerhard said that because this matter is moving toward prosecution, the company cannot publicly share the full details yet.
