Browser games reach a far bigger, more mainstream audience than the industry has assumed, according to a new report from Newzoo and Google.
The study, based on a nationally representative sample of roughly 7,500 monthly players across eight markets, finds that 46% of online consumers ages 13-55 played a browser game — often called H5, for HTML5 — in the past month. Newzoo describes it as the largest sample size ever put behind research on the category, and the findings are already prompting outside developers to reconsider how they think about web gaming.
