During Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, host Geoff Keighley announced as the opening salvo a brand-new Borderlands title: Borderlands 4, as published by 2K Games. The teaser trailer didn’t reveal much, except that the game is targeting a 2025 release date.

The trailer shows the planet Pandora adrift in a turquoise debris field of some kind while asteroids rain down on the surface. Someone with a robotic or prosthetic arm picks up a burning Psycho mask. This is all the trailer itself reveals. The YouTube description reads: “In this next installment of the definitive looter shooter, players will assume the role of a legendary Vault Hunter as they blast their way through hordes of enemies in search of new treasures to loot on an all-new planet.”

This is the second major milestone this year for the Borderlands series, the first being the launch of its film adaptation. Borderlands launched on August 9 to largely negative reception. Borderlands 4 will also be the first new Borderlands title from Gearbox following its acquisition by Take-Two from the Embracer Group.
