The developer of online browser-based games like Battlestar Galactica Online and an upcoming Game of Thrones adaptation just expanded its roster of creative executives.
Bigpoint Games has revealed today that it has hired a new creative director as well as a new director of art and content production. Brian Morrisroe, who previously worked at World of Warcraft developer Blizzard, will now direct all of Bigpoint’s creative endeavors. And Julien Proux, who comes from Activision and Ubisoft, will oversee Bigpoint’s art and content teams. This all comes as the publisher preps to roll out Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game for PC.
At Blizzard, Morrisroe worked on World of Warcraft and Diablo III. He helped design the overall looks for each game and worked with Blizzard’s other artists to ensure everyone was working within a set style.
Proux just finished working as the studio art director for Activision’s development team in China. He helped that studio work with Tencent to develop Call of Duty: Online as a cohesive product that kept all the look and design of the blockbuster first-person shooter franchise. Proux also helped establish the visual language for the amazing naval battles in Assassin’s Creed III while working at Ubisoft Singapore.
Both, it’s clear, have experience working with popular franchises and managing huge teams that create giant libraries of assets. This experience should enable the new Bigpoint executives to guide that studio as it works to create larger releases and as it builds more content for its existing games.
In a statement, Bigpoint chief executive officer Khaled Helioui said that the Proux and Morrisroe have track records that “speak for themselves.” And Helioui expects that these new additions will help the studio produce creative content at a triple-A level.
