Developer Big Viking Games began a crowdfunding campaign this morning to pay for the development of its next release.

The studio is working on a free-to-play role-playing title called Tiny Kingdoms. Big Viking is asking fans to contribute $50,000 on Kickstarter. In exchange, the developer is giving backers control over the design of the game.

“We are giving fans the opportunity to leave their mark on the game and build the game they want to play,” Big Viking Games chief executive Albert Lai said in a statement. “We want our fans to be go beyond just pledging their dollars to also lend their ideas and creativity. The ultimate goal will be to reimagine the way players interact with game developers, through both Kickstarter and collaborative online platforms.”

Tiny Kingdoms is cartoon-style fantasy RPG with warriors, wizards, and dragons. It features tactical combat, character leveling, and special pets.

Big Viking plans to launch the game on iOS and Facebook. The developer is obviously hoping that it can encourage gamers to get involved by offering influence over the development. Still, a free-to-play game likely faces an uphill battle with crowdfunding since many fans often contribute to projects in order to get access to a game.
