Backbone introduced the Backbone One – Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition smartphone game controller.

In collaboration with Kojima Productions, Backbone is launching the Backbone One – Death Stranding 2 Limited Edition controller, officially licensed by PlayStation.

The Backbone controller works with PlayStation Remote Play, so players can stream and play Death Stranding 2 (and other PS5 titles) directly from their console to their phone.

So while the game is designed for console and TV play, the Backbone controller lets fans continue their journey anywhere — whether they’re away from the TV, traveling, or just want to play from the couch without tying up the main screen.

The company, which introduced its latest smartphone controller in May, said it meticulously designed the new Backbone to honor the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

Each controller is a rugged, utilitarian symbol of survival and delivery in the Death Stranding universe. Both functional and recognizable, the protective hard case doubles as a display piece. This is a small artifact of a larger world, made for players who carry their adventures with them.

Our team worked directly with Kojima Productions to translate the themes of resilience and exploration into a hand-held object. Color, typography, and iconography draw from Sam’s world and the materials that support him. The Limited Edition features aluminum D-pad and buttons and is inspired by the design of Backbone One PlayStation Edition, so it looks and plays like it belongs with your setup. Every mark earns its place.

Each controller arrives in a rugged, individually numbered hard case made only for this release. Inside you will find the limited edition Backbone One, a quick start card, and the collector tag. Nothing extra, nothing missing.

The newest Backbone One transforms your iPhone or Android device into a handheld gaming console, including the all-new iPhone 17 series. Snap in your phone and play any game, app or service that supports controllers, including PS Remote Play, Steam Link, Apple Arcade, Google Play Store and Nvidia GeForce NOW. Play great app store titles like Destiny: Rising, Fortnite, and Roblox anywhere.

All second-generation Backbone One controllers include magnetic adapters, which allow for compatibility with popular phone cases. The reshaped D-pad enhances responsiveness, resulting in superior feel and control across all gameplay genres. When combined with the Backbone app – which puts all of gaming in one place – it’s our most accessible gaming experience ever.

Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam — with companions by his side — sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected?

If you have access to broadband internet and a compatible PlayStation console, snap into Backbone One and instantly start playing Death Stranding 2: On the Beach or your other PlayStation games with the power of the PS Remote Play app—whether that’s out and about or even elsewhere in the home²
