Ubisoft is marking the second anniversary of Assassin’s Creed Mirage with a major free story update titled Valley of Memory, launching November 18 across all platforms.

The expansion delivers up to six hours of new gameplay and narrative content, deepening protagonist Basim’s journey and introducing a new desert region inspired by Saudi Arabia’s historic AlUla Valley.

In Valley of Memory, Basim pursues rumors that his long-lost father may still be alive, drawing him to AlUla—a vast, ancient landscape filled with archaeological ruins, treacherous bandits, and mysteries that predate his time in Baghdad. The new story unfolds before the main game’s finale and adds an entirely new map with fresh assassination targets, contracts, and collectibles. Ubisoft describes the update as a “love letter to exploration,” with distinct locations like the old town of AlUla, the Musa Ibn Musayr fortress, the Valley of the Stones, and Hegra’s sprawling necropolis.

Fans of the franchise’s classic design will find familiar elements reimagined in Valley of Memory, including a new twist on the series’ iconic black box missions. Ubisoft has also confirmed that players can now replay completed black box missions and contracts, adding challenge modifiers like stealth restrictions, time limits, or limited vision to unlock exclusive rewards.

Ubisoft notes that Valley of Memory is designed as both a narrative and mechanical evolution of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, blending the series’ traditional stealth gameplay with a focus on world-building and player creativity.

The free update underscores Ubisoft’s ongoing commitment to supporting Mirage as a standalone celebration of the franchise’s roots with a “return to the essence” that fans and critics alike praised on its 2023 release. It’s interesting to see a new expansion for a game that’s more than two years old when the latest entry, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, just released earlier this year.

The Valley of Memory expansion arrives for Assassin’s Creed Mirage as a free expansion on November 18.
