Aethir offers GPUs as a service in the cloud for Web3 gaming.

Aethir to launch Qualcomm-based edge computing devices on May 23

Aethir, a decentralized graphics processing unit (GPU) infrastructure firm, announced the May 23 retail release of Aethir Edge, an edge computing device powered by Qualcomm.

Aethir Edge is integrated with Aethir’s distributed cloud infrastructure, which offers GPUs as a service to customers who need AI processing.

With Aethir Edge, users worldwide can earn rewards by sparing bandwidth, IP addresses, and computing power. By pooling localized resources, Aethir Edge makes elite computing power accessible to all while enabling implementations across various industries, such as gaming, AI, VR/AR, and real-time streaming.

The release of the initial 11,000 Aethir Edge devices will be exclusive to the Aethir community, and anyone can waitlist to get access to future releases here. This initiative is the gateway to actively participating in the Aethir network and earning rewards in Aethir’s native token $ATH – 23% of the total supply of ATH tokens are reserved exclusively for Aethir Edge users.

“Aethir Edge is the only authorized mining device integrated with distributed cloud infrastructure available,” said Sanjay Saini, head of partnerships at Aethir Edge, in a statement. “It is the key to our decentralized cloud ecosystem and will empower transformative products and experiences using edge computing.”

In the second half of 2023, Cisco ThousandEyes observed increasing data-driven and compute-intensive workloads maxing out servers. Combined with a growing number of data center outages that impacted cloud services and applications utilizing those servers, the need for more resilient architecture has never been more critical.

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chip, Aethir Edge ensures ample resources for smooth parallel processing and guarantees reliability and uptime by interconnecting high-performance edge AI devices into a distributed cloud network. Doing so, Aethir ensures that computing power is no longer confined to select locations or entities.

“Aethir Edge unlocks new experiences previously limited by centralized infrastructure,” said Saini. “Together with our OS, we can bring high-performance gaming, AI, and graphics rendering to every smartphone user while shifting them away from centralized data monopolies and towards a more equitable edge computing landscape owned and governed by users.”

The public sales event for this release is scheduled for May 23, 2024, and will be organized in multiple rounds to ensure that active community members have priority in purchasing these devices. Early registrants will also benefit from a special price of $999, compared to the standard price of $1,099. A series of prizes will also be available; with 100,000 signups, ten winners will split a prize pool of $1,000. Scale up to 300,000 signups, and 20 winners will share $2,000, with one extra device awarded to a winner. When 500,000 signups are reached, 30 winners will divvy up $3,000 and two devices will find their way to two more winners.
